What is a V Steam?

The V Spa organic herbal vaginal steam method is inspired by ancient  cultural practices around the world.  Vaginal steaming  is a timeless therapeutic healing technique  for the female reproductive system. It involves sitting in an open chair over a pot- of purified water and organic herbs that are cleansing and calming.

Today, we have successfully refined this traditional practice without watering down it's significance by blending ancient and modern philosophies for the modern American woman.

How does the process work?

Our certified practitioners may recommend  a special herbal formula depending on your needs. Our herbal medicine blends differ from western/synthetic medicine,  in that they are almost always prescribed as a formula containing 5-15 medicinal herbs per blend. Uniquely combining different types of herbs in different quantities helps us to craft a formula to address your specific symptom pattern or feminine issue.

After intake and consultation, your practitioner will prepare you for your session, line the seat of your chair with fresh linens, and have you change into a special gown before you are seated.

Isn't the vagina self-cleansing?

Absolutely, however the presence of symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle and/or hormonal imbalances, is indicative of  the reproductive system requiring support to function most efficiently.

Symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle are usually caused by inefficient shedding of the uterine lining during menses. The purpose of steaming is not to  actually cleanse the uterus outside of the naturally occurring menstrual cycle. Instead, it is to ensure a complete emptying of the uterine lining during menses in order to alleviate symptoms and create balance.  Steaming during the menstrual cycle is contraindicated- as this disrupts the natural process. Steaming before and after menstruation is advised.

Does the steam burn?

The  V Spa Vagisteam is a non-invasive treatment and the client is never seated directly on a heated surface nor have any instrument or device inserted into the vagina. You will be positioned at a safe distance from the steam blowing from below the  perineum. The steam is never  scolding hot, but a very warm and relaxing temperature that is completely safe.

Am I going to be exposed?

No, clients are never exposed during their treatment.

The gown you will be wearing will cover your body completely. You will be seated in a private treatment room during the session.

How can the steam penetrate my uterus?

The most common use of vaginal steaming is for postpartum care to prevent infection. While the cervix is still dilated at that time- steam eases directly into the uterine canal which introduces heat and stimulates cellular turnover to allow cleansing and tightening. This is evident by the discharge of the lochia  and shedding of other birth remnants following a postpartum steam.
In most other cases, for a woman whose cervix is closed except when in menstruation and postpartum-it is still likely for steam to enter the uterus by softening and relaxing the muscle tissue of the uterus and pelvic floor.

Can a V steam  upset my vaginal flora?

Vaginal Flora resets itself once monthly after the period flushes out the uterine lining and its contents.

A V steam is actually effective in  balancing the pH

(a natural indicator of a healthy flora) and/or resolving vaginal odors by killing off bad bacteria and yeast overgrowths.

How do I know if i should try a V Steam?

Although the uterus is self-cleansing, as with all the organs sometimes everything doesn't function as the body needs it to and is affected by disease and other debilitating factors. (i.e. uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, HPV, etc.)

A couple of the signs to look for that are indicative that the uterus isn't getting its full cleanse every month are painful cramps, clots and dark red or brown menses at the onset or conclusion of the cycle.

How often is it recommended to steam?

The V steam process is an empowering self-care ritual as much as it is a preventative care tool for the support of women's feminine and reproductive health.
We highly recommend our clients to treat before-and-after menstrual flow from full-moon to new-moon. (ovulation and menstruation), or whenever experiencing cycle irregularities or pH imbalances to encourage optimal feminine health.

Are there any times when vaginal steaming is not appropriate?

Yes,  steaming is contraindicative  during these times:

  • While currently menstruating
  •  During pregnancy
  • If trying to conceive and have already ovulated (e.g. you could  possibly be pregnant)
  • If prone to spontaneous, or heavy bleeding
  • When experiencing any sort of STD, active herpes outbreak, or in the presence of other open sores, and skin irritations as conditions may worsen.
  • It is also not advised for women to steam who have a case of moderate to severe incontinence.
